’Supergirl’: ‘Exodus’ Review

Supergirl 215

Supergirl 215Supergirl starts off intensely this week as an alien family is taken by mysterious men posing as police officers that are most likely working for Cadmus since the events of last week’s episode when Lillian Luthor got a hold of the alien registry. The trouble continues when Cadmus kidnaps Winn’s alien girlfriend, Lyra, at the Alien Bar.

With Cadmus kidnapping aliens one by one, Kara tries to use CatCo as a way to warn the alien citizens in National City, but Snapper Carr isn’t willing to run her article, unless she has one heck of a source. Kara offers Snapper an interview with the Girl of Steel, but the interview doesn’t go as planned when Snapper asks Supergirl for her source. Kara gets suggested by Lena to publish her article on a separate blog, so the warning gets out there. As Kara goes through with publishing her article, she is later faced with a big consequence for her action when Snapper fires her. Despite that he acknowledges that Kara’s story was right, Snapper didn’t like how she went about it.

Alex is still struggling with her father betraying the D.E.O. and J’onn notices that she is a bit off her edge this week. While she tries to convince J’onn that she is fine, however, J’onn proves her wrong when he later shows up as Jeremiah to test her. When she falls for his test, J’onn reveals himself and tells her that she is suspended until the Cadmus situation is over. Alex teams up with Maggie to try and track down Cadmus without the help of the D.E.O. She infiltrates Cadmus on her own as Alex tries to stop Project Exodus which is revealed to be a large spaceship that will send the aliens back into outer space.

Alex gets caught by Cadmus agents, but she reveals that she has planted several bombs in the facility and threatens to detonate them if they don’t call off the Exodus launch. Jeremiah makes the choice to go against Cadmus and the two Danvers members begin to fight the agents. As Alex frees the prisoners inside the ship, time runs out and the ship begins to take off into outer space. Kara arrives to try slowing it down as she uses all of her strength to do so. While they stopped one threat for now, a new one is arriving on Earth, as the episodes ends with the reveal of those two hooded figures on the spaceship from earlier this season.

A lot went down in tonight’s big episode that we have to discuss. So let’s go through the top 5 highlights and important moments of the Supergirl Season 2 episode: “Exodus”

‘The Walking Dead’ Recap: “Say Yes”

Rick and Michonne

Walking Dead Rick and Michonne
Last week on The Walking Dead, Eugene was taken into Savior territory (The Sanctuary) where he was given a hero’s welcome. While he got to see the “good side” of siding with his enemies, he also saw once again the evil warlord that Negan is. Eugene also perfected his lying and showed once again how valuable his mind (and his lying tongue) can be in the apocalypse. He ended up saying that he’s “Negan,” weather that remains to be a lie, or if he has turned sides remains to be seen.

This week starts with Rick and Michonne on the road, honoring their deal with the Garbage People, their “new best friends.” In between clearing houses and gathering supplies, the two find time to embrace in passion a few times (good for them). The two stumble upon a zombified soldier, which means there’s got to be guns somewhere. They stumble on a fair populated with zombies, that ends up to have everything they need. As the two share a nice meal, they talk about the future after they deal with Negan. As they talk, she wants to head back with their new supplies, but Rick wants them to take their time as there’s no rush to take it all back. As they try to leave, they get caught by a swarm of zombies. The two manage to fight them off and escape with the guns.

Meanwhile, Rosita is still impatiently wanting to enact her revenge against Negan, much to Tara’s disappointment. Tara still must lie about Oceanside. After all, a promise is a promise. Tara reminds her to quell her anger for The Saviors when the time is right, but she’s still impatient and goes off to look for guns herself, risking her life for a cap gun. She shares a moment with Father Gabriel to vent her frustrations for him interfering with her trying to kill Negan and he gives her a nice pep talk to tell her what she needs. Tara is also feeling some guilt over not telling everyone about Oceanside. To help absolve herself of the guilt, she gives the Oceanside bracelet to a baby Judith as she is now her “therapist.” Tara makes a decision on what to tell Rick while Rosita makes a decision of her own.

Before we can get to that next week, here are a few of the top moments of the episode. Click Next to continue (Spoilers obviously) …

‘Beauty And The Beast’ Review: A Fun, But Flawed Trip Back To Familiar Territory

Beauty & The Beast

Beauty & The Beast

Disney’s Original Beauty And The Beast is one of the very few animated films to be nominated for the Academy Award  Best Picture back in 1991. The film is regarded as a classic Disney Animated Musical that has been a part of so many people’s lives. It has garnered fans because of how many people grew up with its initial release and how good a movie it really is. It has received a heap of praise throughout the years and since Disney has recently been remaking some of their classics it is no surprise as to why they would choose to do this film again. With an all star cast and a high production value 2017’s Beauty and the Beast has been highly anticipated. So the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not it holds up? The answer to that question from my perspective is not quite, but it still finds it’s own path.

The plot of the film revolves around Belle (Emma Watson). The intelligent girl whose love of books and inventing has caused her and her father to be treated differently in the little town that they inhabit. While the most popular man in town, Gaston (Luke Evans) vies for her hand in marriage Belle’s father ends up finding his way into an abandoned castle whose inhabitants include the Beast (Dan Stevens). A man who has been cursed to take the form of a giant monster. Belle bargains with the beast who releases her father on the condition that she must remain his captive forever. She agrees to save her father and through her time there she discovers that this beast is much more than meets the eye. The plot of the film plays out almost beat for beat the same as the original film. They add additional scenes, change things up, and explain more of Belle’s past but the film focuses on recreating things from the original and while fans of the film may get a lot of nostalgia from these moments it adds nothing new being in live action. In some sense it even makes the film feel more drawn out and not as engaging.

The cast has a wide range of talented actors including Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, and many others. If there was one actor that stood out that would have to go to Luke Evans as Gaston. Gaston is a fan favorite character and Evans nails the lovably evil and obnoxious character perfectly with his song being one of the most elaborately choreographed scenes in the entire film. Josh Gad also fits perfectly as LeFou, Gaston’s sidekick. Watson and Stevens also do a good job in their respective roles in portraying the iconic characters.

The music is such an important aspect of the film and while some numbers don’t hit quite where the original did the cast for the most part sing each song well and it does a great job of evoking the same feelings from the original. They even threw in a few new songs that help expand upon the story and turn it into a more fleshed out musical. These new songs are great, but they really don’t add much weight seeing as the original tunes are what carry the film.

The technical aspects of this film is probably its strongest elements with excellent CGI mixed with brilliant costume and set design. The castle itself feels huge and reflect the original film well, with the small town feeling right. It’s a visually stunning film and there is enough changes in the looks to separate it from the original, while also staying very true.

The film as a whole will not be for everyone. On its own it is a very simple remake of the original that brings nothing new to the table besides the visuals. If you are a fan of the original film than more than likely you will love seeing it told in a different way, but if you are not a fan I don’t see this film swaying anyone. Overall as a fan of the original I had a good time with it. It’s a flawed, but fun trip that is worth a watch if you are already a  fan or really love movie musicals.

Score: 7.0

DCTV’s Arrowverse Episode Roundup: Sacrificing Who You Are

DCTV Arrowverse Episode Roundup

DCTV Arrowverse Episode Roundup

Missed this week’s superhero fare? Wanted to refresh yourself of all the events of the episodes and read some commentary? Then you’ve come to the right place!

DCTV’s Arrowverse weekly episode roundup is back this week and there’s a lot to cover!

This week, Supergirl brought back Jeremiah Danvers but there was something not right with his return; The Flash’s two-part Grodd arc came to a satisfying conclusion and left us with a great cliffhanger; and Arrow had Oliver facing impeachment from his post as mayor.

The overall thread that tied the episodes together was that of sacrificing who you are for something bigger. Jeremiah sacrificed his family’s trust to work with Cadmus, Barry thought of sacrificing his humanity to kill Grodd, and Oliver sacrificed the Green Arrow’s reputation to the public to save his post as mayor.

Let’s get to it! You can read the individual roundups by clicking next through the gallery!

‘Riverdale’ 1.06 ‘Faster, Pussycats! Kill! Kill!’ Review

Riverdale Chapter Six Review

Riverdale Chapter Six ReviewIn an episode of reveals and betrayals, Riverdale brought us a little closer to the truth about Jason’s murder, introducing us to Polly Cooper, and screwed with relationships even more, dividing multiple characters.

Jughead and Betty stuck to their mission to find Polly, which came with the reveal that Polly is pregnant with Jason’s child but wasn’t aware of Jason’s death, until Betty’s visit. Plus, the information Polly gave Betty helped Betty and Jughead find the getaway car Jason and Polly were supposedly going to use to escape Riverdale and start a life together with. However, both the car and Polly disappeared by episode’s end, with the car – and all of the evidence inside  – going up in flames and Polly breaking out of the youth home she had been “held captive” in.

Back on the musical side of things, Archie froze when it came time for his variety show audition but, thanks to Veronica, he was able to get a spot in the show anyway. Teaming up with Valerie after she quit the Pussycats, the two grew closer and prepared to go on stage together. But, realizing Valerie’s heart was really with the Pussycat’s, Archie told Valerie to return to her group and took to the stage himself, finding the courage to perform one of his songs.

Meanwhile, Josie’s disapproving father came to town and disapproved of nearly everything Josie did, which included replacing Valerie with Veronica during the short stint Valerie quit the Pussycats. Still, like the true performer she is, Josie got on stage to deliver a solid performance with all four Pussycats (Veronica included), even if her father ultimately walked out on it.

Just as Archie grew closer to Valerie this episode, even sharing a kiss later on, Hermione and Fred shared their own moment, which didn’t sit well at all with Veronica. Giving in to her feelings for Fred, Hermione sunk to a new low to get Fred a construction contract he needed to keep his business going, ultimately forging Veronica’s signature on a Lodge Industries document. Fred ended up unwittingly revealing this fact to Veronica, who’s now at extreme odds with her mother.

And in the middle of it all, Jughead went for it and planted a kiss on Betty, who didn’t seem to mind.

‘Legion’: ‘Chapter 4’ Review

Legion4

Legion4
After a great first few episodes, “Chapter 4” of Legion has a lot to live up to. While “Chapter 3” was primarily about David discovering his powers, “Chapter 4” is about discovering pieces of David’s past. As we have come to know, David himself is an unreliable source, but this episode actually doesn’t feature the subjective view of past episodes. As far as we know, the scenes happening in the “real world” are true, and not some faulty memory or projection as we have grown accustomed to. The seeming objectivity of this chapter allows a lot of revelations (and even more questions) regarding David’s past.

In the next few pages I will attempt to summarize the episode while analyzing important points along the way. Click next to get started, or pick a point below to jump to.

‘Arrow’: ‘Fighting Fire With Fire’ Review

Arrow 515

Arrow 515Arrow picked up right where it left off last week as Oliver Queen had to deal with the fallout of his actions as mayor in the previous episode for the cover-up of Billy Malone’s death. Oliver has to face city council that would take a vote on whether Oliver gets to continue being Mayor. After the impeachment hearing, Oliver and the team get attacked by The Vigilante during a limo drive. While Dinah and Thea try to take him down, he gets the upper hand at both of them. As he is about to shoot Oliver, the police arrives and The Vigilante makes a run for it.

Dinah is continuing to investigate if Vigilante left anything behind at the crime scene, which he did and she calls the team to have Curtis’ T-Spheres track where it came from. Later on, Vigilante is seen battling Prometheus on a rooftop, but the fight is over pretty quickly as the archer knocks the shooter down from the roof. He unmasks himself and calls the police, as the identity of the Season 5 big bad is revealed. Felicity comes clean with Diggle about her collaboration with Helix for the past few weeks.  Diggle gets worried that Felicity being willing to cross these lines, has to do with Billy’s death. Later in the episode, Felicity contacts her Helix handler and decides to join the organization.

Oliver isn’t allowed to testify at city council, so he decides to hold a press conference where he is planning to do something quite unexpected. The team is aware thought that Vigilante will be there to try and take Oliver out, while he is holding the conference. He explains to the city that the reason he had Billy’s death covered up was because Oliver didn’t want Star City to find out that Green Arrow is actually a cop-killer. Oliver paints the Emerald Archer as Star City’s public enemy and calls for the arrest of the Green Arrow. Later on, he meets up with Susan who has gotten her job back as her name was cleared. Quentin arrives to deliver the good news: the impeachment isn’t happening. When Oliver goes to tell Thea the good news, she is packing up as she has decided to resign, after her recent actions.

The episode ends with Adrian paying Susan a visit, with a “life or death” exclusive and while she kindly declines, that’s not the answer he is looking for. A lot went down in tonight’s heavy episode so we got a lot to discuss. So hit the next button below and let’s go through some of the highlights and important moments of the Arrow Season 5 episode: “Fighting Fire With Fire”
