In an episode of reveals and betrayals, Riverdale brought us a little closer to the truth about Jason’s murder, introducing us to Polly Cooper, and screwed with relationships even more, dividing multiple characters.
Jughead and Betty stuck to their mission to find Polly, which came with the reveal that Polly is pregnant with Jason’s child but wasn’t aware of Jason’s death, until Betty’s visit. Plus, the information Polly gave Betty helped Betty and Jughead find the getaway car Jason and Polly were supposedly going to use to escape Riverdale and start a life together with. However, both the car and Polly disappeared by episode’s end, with the car – and all of the evidence inside – going up in flames and Polly breaking out of the youth home she had been “held captive” in.
Back on the musical side of things, Archie froze when it came time for his variety show audition but, thanks to Veronica, he was able to get a spot in the show anyway. Teaming up with Valerie after she quit the Pussycats, the two grew closer and prepared to go on stage together. But, realizing Valerie’s heart was really with the Pussycat’s, Archie told Valerie to return to her group and took to the stage himself, finding the courage to perform one of his songs.
Meanwhile, Josie’s disapproving father came to town and disapproved of nearly everything Josie did, which included replacing Valerie with Veronica during the short stint Valerie quit the Pussycats. Still, like the true performer she is, Josie got on stage to deliver a solid performance with all four Pussycats (Veronica included), even if her father ultimately walked out on it.
Just as Archie grew closer to Valerie this episode, even sharing a kiss later on, Hermione and Fred shared their own moment, which didn’t sit well at all with Veronica. Giving in to her feelings for Fred, Hermione sunk to a new low to get Fred a construction contract he needed to keep his business going, ultimately forging Veronica’s signature on a Lodge Industries document. Fred ended up unwittingly revealing this fact to Veronica, who’s now at extreme odds with her mother.
And in the middle of it all, Jughead went for it and planted a kiss on Betty, who didn’t seem to mind.
