The Winchester brothers are back in town! Supernatural premiered its twelfth season tonight on the CW, and as you might expect from the popular fantasy horror series, the ratings were strong. Indeed, whether you like it or not, you’ve got to give it to Supernatural for managing to rake in a healthy amount of viewers for so long – a feat that not too many other cable TV shows can boast about.
This season of Supernatural pretty much starts off like every other season. If you’re not familiar with the usual Supernatural season formula, first off, you probably shouldn’t be reading this spoiler-filled review, and two, allow me to tell you.
Basically, every season of Supernatural has to have three key components; a deadly threat, a shocking surprise that no one could have anticipated, and a whole lot of bad luck for our favorite trouble magnets, Sam and Dean.
It just so happens that this season kicks things off with all three in the form of a shocking return that rattles the brothers, and the viewers, to their very core. At the end of the last season, Sam is supposedly shot, and Dean helps siblings (and godly figures) Chuck and Amara to reconcile. Later on, Dean encounters a familiar face; his formerly dead mother, Mary Winchester.
With Dean face-to-face with his mother for the first time in years, and Sam possibly clinging on to dear life (oh yeah, and Castiel has been banished too, because like the Winchesters, he can never catch a break), things in Supernatural Season 12 are shaping up to be especially hellish! Let’s see what threat awaits our favorite brothers with the top five moments of the season 12 premiere, “Keep Calm and Carry On”!
