Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. opens up with Yo-Yo and the other agents in the real world as they are getting worried about what is happening with Daisy and Simmons. Back in the Framework, Hydra invades the broadcasting station, but S.H.I.E.L.D. has already gotten away. Simmons tells Daisy what Aida is planning as Daisy tells her about Radcliffe’s “backdoor” which is a gate to the real world. Daisy and Simmons argue about whether or not there is enough time to save Fitz, who is still hunting them.
At Hydra, Fitz interrogates Radcliffe about what he said to Daisy and offers him a chance for “rebirth” via Project Looking Glass, which Radcliffe accepts. As he gets one step closer to finding them, Simmons has gone to May to ask for help in rescuing Fitz as May brings up how Fitz’s father was what shaped him. Simmons decides to go to Alistair’s home with a gun and walks in. She tries to convince Alistair how Fitz is in danger and demands that he calls his son up. Alistair calls Fitz and tells him that he loves his son before telling that Simmons has invaded his home before attacking her. He starts strangling her and as Simmons is almost about to fall, she manages to grab her gun and kill Alistair. Fitz hears the shots over the phone and decides to head over to his father’s home, but Simmons is already gone.
As Madame Hydra is informed about everything that has happened, she demands that they go through with Project Looking Glass. The machine starts creating her body in the real world as Aida is getting closer to accomplishing her plan. Coulson and his team are looking for the backdoor in a steel mill, but they aren’t able to find it. Daisy and Simmons discuss if the Madame has somehow hidden it as Mack gets confused on what’s going on. May fills him in on that Coulson, Daisy and Simmons believes there is a backdoor to “the real world”. They all start arguing as Mack is furious that he was tricked into this mission. Daisy comes up with the idea to use her powers on the pit to open the portal and goes through with the idea. The quaking is making the portal open and Coulson starts walking towards it. However, Fitz and his Hydra squad have just arrived as one of them shoots Coulson several times. May and Mack manage to take out the three soldiers before she runs over to Coulson to try and save him. Coulson asks her to trust him and go through the portal. Despite being hesitant, May decides to trust him and goes through it as they both wake up in the real world again.
As they pass through it, it triggers the environment where Mack realizes that maybe Daisy and Simmons were right. When it’s Simmons’ turn, Fitz and Radcliffe show up behind her as he has her at gunpoint. Simmons tries to explain how she was trying to save Fitz, but he won’t hear it as she killed his father. Fitz shoots her in the leg and demands that she tell him that she is nothing to him. Simmons refuses and as Fitz is about to kill her, Radcliffe kills the last Hydra soldier and knocks Fitz out, as he apologizes to Fitz how this was never what he intended to do with the Framework. He pushes Fitz into the portal as Radcliffe apologizes to Simmons for everything before she goes through the backdoor.
When it’s Mack’s turn to go through the portal, Mack is still not willing to go through the portal as he doesn’t want to go back to a world where he can’t be with his daughter. Daisy tries over and over again to convince that none of this is real, but Mack ends up stepping back and bidding her farewell as she goes back to the real world. When she wakes up, Yo-Yo is happy to see her again and asks if she was able to save Mack, but Daisy tells her that she is sorry.
Fitz wakes up and is freaking out as he remembers everything he did in the Framework. Coulson tries to calm him down, but they discover that they aren’t alone as Aida’s body has been completed as she is now human. She goes out to see Fitz while May tries to shoot her, telling Fitz to get out of the way. But suddenly Aida grabs Fitz and teleports away. The last shot of the episode ends with Mack in the Framework as he informs Trip that they made it through to the real world as Hope wakes up and asks where the team is. Mack tells her the story of Wizard of Oz when Dorothy went back to Kansas, to explain where the team went. Hope asks if they are going to that place to, but Mack tells her that they are staying.
