’Gotham’: ‘Those Delicate And Dark Obsessions’ Review

Gotham

GothamGotham opens up with a meeting in the Court of Owls as Kathryn is addressing the members that a secret is being built to use on Gotham City. The members all vote for it, but Frank Gordon seems a bit hesitant at first before calling his vote as Kathryn declares that Gotham must fall.

Bruce wakes up again in his prison cell as the gate opens and a mystery man walks in. He asks if the Court of Owl is behind this and the man confirms it. The shaman explains why he is here and that he needs Bruce’s help and that they will begin, something, soon. Later on in his cell, Bruce starts investigating the place and tries to get out of the place. But Bruce keeps running in circles until he sees the Shaman before continuing to run around until he eventually gives up and goes back to the Shaman. The Shaman pulls out a couple of acupuncture needles that he claims to be some form of “keys” that will help Bruce. He sticks on into Bruce’s forehead as he relives the night when his parents were murdered. Bruce snaps out of it and backs away with utter fear as he asks the Shaman what he did to him with that needle. The Shaman says they will try again soon as he leaves the cell. When he returns later on, Bruce tries to take him out, but fails to do as the Shaman injects him with another needle and takes Bruce back to that night.

He sees his parents being murdered again before the murderer disappears into the night. Bruce starts fighting the Shaman again, but gets his butt kicked over and over. He tells Bruce that he has so much to teach him, but that as long as Bruce’s pain gets in the way, he can’t become the man that he needs to be, who Gotham City needs him to be. Bruce wakes up and asks the Shaman what he wants. The Shaman explains to Bruce that he and his group have tried to end the circle of crimes in Gotham City, but it just keeps living on. The Shaman explains how Bruce plays a big role in the future of Gotham and that he needs to become its protector.

At GCPD, the news is talking about Aubrey James being back in charge as the mayor which annoys Bullock. Gordon is looking into the murder of his father as he reexamines the case now that he knows that the Court of Owls was behind it. He later visits his father’s grave where he also meets Frank. Gordon tells his uncle that the driver that killed his father wasn’t actually drunk. Frank tells Gordon about the mystery weapon that the Court is working on to destroy the city. Gordon asks him how to stop it, but Frank doesn’t even know what the weapon is. As Gordon is on his way out of the cemetery, he sees Leslie visiting Mario Falcone’s grave as she asks him what he is doing there. Gordon tells her that he has reconnected with his uncle. After she leaves, Bullock gives Gordon a call and tells him about the driver who took Gordon’s dad out after Carmine Falcone paid for the driver’s hot shot lawyer.

Bruce confronts Carmine about his father’s murderer and Carmine’s involvement. Carmine denies his involvement as he respected Gordon’s father. Gordon tells Carmine that he knows about the Court of Owls as Carmine admits he has a partnership with the Court. He asks Carmine to give him a name on who put out the hit on his father. According to Carmine, it was Frank Gordon who put out the hit. Gordon confronts his uncle about it at his house later on. Frank confirms that he did put the hit out on his brother because he was risking exposing the Court. Gordon tries to arrest his uncle, but Frank fights back and steals the gun. Frank tells Gordon to head to “Dock 9C” where the mystery weapon will be arriving at.

Gordon heads back to the station and tells Bullock about the Court of Owls. Bullock convinces Gordon to head down to the docks and confirm if Frank’s story is true. Gordon decides to give Barbara a call and ask for a favor, to find out what is arriving at Dock 9C. Barbara and Tabitha start interrogating a worker at the dock who says there is no Dock 9C. They don’t give up though as they start tormenting and he confesses that something did already arrive at that Dock. The conversation is interrupted as a mystery man, dressed exactly like Talon, appears and start taking out the Sirens’ men as the two women escape before the worker get decapitated. Bullock and Gordon find out that the dock is being guarded by an assassin. While they don’t know what it is, Barbara did tell Gordon that it comes from Indian Hill.

Back at the Court, Kathryn confronts Frank about Gordon’s snooping and Frank admits that he told him how he had Peter killed in order to protect the organization. Kathryn finds it suspicious that Gordon, after all these years, would start looking into this now and Frank agrees with her. She orders him that Gordon has to die. Frank gives Gordon a call and tells him to come see him as soon as possible. Gordon heads over there where Frank is waiting for him with a gun as he finds out that the shipment came from Indian Hill. He admits to his nephew that he is supposed to kill him, but Frank offers Gordon a deal. Frank asks Gordon to join the Court, to take his place as they don’t seem to trust him anymore. Frank tells Gordon that his father would have been proud of his son before putting the gun to his own head and kills himself.

Penguin is still being taken care of by Ivy Pepper, but he isn’t exactly enjoying her help. He asks Ivy what is up with her love for plants and she says that they are her friends. Oswald starts screaming at her that he needs to get back to the city and Ivy says that she would help him if he wasn’t being rude. He has her deliver a message to Gabe, one of his old employers. Ivy finds Gabe and brings him back to the house where he gives Penguin a big bear hug. Oswald asks Gabe to help him get an army together so he can climb his way back to power. Ivy is suspicious of him and asks Oswald to let her use his perfume that makes people tell her the truth. Oswald dismisses her and tells her that they are done with each other. Ivy gets upset and leaves as Gabe asks Oswald if she told Oswald to not trust him, to which he says yes. Suddenly Gabe goes quiet and Oswald turns around only to get knocked out by his former right hand.

Gabe tells Oswald that he and none of Penguins’ other men ever liked him and that they are planning on auctioning off Oswald to the highest bidder. While Gabe’s sales force arrives, Ivy gets caught behind a window as she followed Oswald and Gabe there. Despite being tied down to a chair, Ivy has a plan to get them out of it, but wants Oswald to be nice to her before she goes through with it. She gets one of Gabe’s men to come up to her as she manages to trick him by getting him to smell her perfume. He is now under Ivy’s control and she tells him to kill everyone, but Gabe. Oswald gets un-tied as he kills the man and decides to torment Gabe a little before he executes him. Ivy uses her perfume to see if Gabe is telling the truth and Gabe admits that he only followed the Penguin out of fear, that no one ever respected him. Oswald gets furious when he gets called a freak and starts to beat Gabe to death.

Later that night, Oswald gets rid of the bodies while Ivy asks what he is going to do next. Ivy offers to help him build an army of “freaks” which Oswald gets intrigued by. Elsewhere, Gordon is paying his respects at his father’s grave. Kathryn gives him a call and they both agree that it’s time they meet. A car pulls up and Gordon walks over as the episode cuts to black.
